I have something a bit different for you today, an interview with a fabulous lady who helped me tame my eyebrows years ago - and they've missed her skills ever since! Meet Kylie-Ann Roughan, a Waikato based multi talented wonder.
Tell me a bit about you!
My name is Kylie-Ann Roughan and I am the owner and operator of Voluptuous Devine Mobile Nail and Beauty Services, a wife to Brendan and mother to three girls.
How did you first get into makeup? Do you have any special memories? Was there someone who got you into it?
I have always been interested in makeup and the illusion of makeup. I was gifted my first makeup kit at the age of 8 and since then have had the bug.
What made you decide to start your own business?
Well my business was born after I went through my training and did my business plan for my mobile beauty salon. At that stage of my life I weighed 170+kg and wanted to build a business based on the belief of beauty brought to the doorstep for the real kiwi woman. Busy mums, birthing centers, hospitals, working mums, rest homes and more. So Voluptuous Devine was started.
How long have you been doing this? What kind of services do you offer?
I have been running Voluptuous devine for 8 years now servicing the Waikato Area. I do beauty, nail, tanning, and specialise in airbrushing, makeup artistry and hair styles, all for that special occasion. My business is perfect for one on one appointments, bridal and formal events, productions and photo shoots, hens parties, pamper parties and so much more. I have just opened a home pamper room to cater for clientèle that would like to come to me:)
How long have you been doing this? What kind of services do you offer?

How do you juggle business with work/family/other commitments?
Juggling a growing business and 3 girls and my husband can get quite challenging. Because I started my business 8 years ago it is all my kids have ever known so they work in with our routine. I offer two shifts a day 10.30-2pm and 6.30pm- 9pm. 5 1/2 days a week. I also contract work out to other hairdressers, makeup artists, nail technicians, and beauty therapists to help with double bookings and group bookings. They are all therapists who have exceptional skills and meet all my personal expectations. I'm very proud of what I've achieved but there is always room for improvement.
What is your favourite part of the job?
My favourite thing is hair and makeup and the whole sequence of the transformation. I love the movement of hair and I love to be able to make a lady look nothing like herself.

Do you have any business/make up/beautician role models?
I'm not really the sort of person that I have someone up on a pedestal. I can learn from everyone who is like minded and creative. I don't have any makeup gurus or idols that I look up too. I believe I am constantly improving by learning from those around me. I do a fair bit of research and keep up with the fashion from the media.
What has been your favourite business moment to date?
My biggest moment regarding my business so far would be being published in Tempo as a makeup artist for a job.
How do you decide what you want to achieve with a client?
I get the vision of what I'm wanting to achieve by talking with you and asking questions. I want to know the colour theme, accessories, shoes, and what you're up to during the day or evening so I can secure hair and make up for that period of time.
Do you have a particular makeup skill you're really proud of?
My strengths when applying makeup would be making eyes pop. Its important that your eyes tell a tale weather is be a sparkling eye or a more defined sharp look I customize it for you.
